"The health of the school depends upon having a responsible and effective system of governance which assures that the school remains true to its purpose and has the necessary resources to support its operation."
BOT Responsibilities
The Board of Trustees’ responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Being responsible for the institution and its purpose as a whole, and not for the separate constituencies.
- Planning, developing and establishing policies.
- Setting the policy of the financial condition of the school, approving budgets and monitoring them (checks and balances).
- Ensuring that the physical plant of the school serves the purpose of the school.
- Organizing and managing itself to fulfill its duties with bylaws, policies and procedures.
- Contracting, if and when needed, educational or other consultants to oversee the school's development, advising on the hiring criteria for the School Principal, assisting in recruitment and training, and developing the school's improvement plans in line with the school’s purpose and direction.
- Appointing the School Principal and the School Auditor.

Management
School Principal: Ms. Mary Ann Lewis
Ms. Lewis is a licensed School Principal (Ontario College of Teachers, Canada) and has a Masters degree in Educational Management and Curriculum Delivery (SDSU, California, USA). Other degrees earned by Ms. Lewis include a Special Education Qualification as well as a Bachelor’s degree in English and Music and a qualification as a Mathematics and Language Arts Curriculum Consultant from prestigious Canadian universities.
Her certification and experience encompass curricular frameworks within a wide range of teaching and leadership roles Nursery to Grade 12 as well as University Faculty of Education Teacher Candidate Supervision (Years 3 and 4). Ms. Lewis has also worked in the senior management of several international schools as Academic Director, Principal and Vice Principal, with additional experience as a District-Wide Curriculum Consultant and Learning Specialist within a wide range of social, cultural and economic contexts.
Ms. Lewis will be at LWIS-Hazmieh as of February 15, 2015.
